Beacon Fell is a delightful little hill (sorry if you think otherwise but c’mon it’s not even 900′) that is now part of a fully fledged country park.

In spite of its lack of height, if you do the summit walk then there are one or two strenuous parts, luckily enough these don’t tend to take very long to trek through. There are altogether three laid out ‘official’ paths and I dare say at least double this amount of ‘unofficial’ ones. The views of the surrounding peaks is something to behold, Parlick and Fair Snape Fell appear so close that you could almost reach out and grab at them and Longridge and Pendle Hill retain their majestic outlines. On a clear day you could probably see the Pennines … but that’s pretty much a given for most places in Lancashire!

The country park caters for a large majority of the general public with toilet facilities and ample car parking, a café, an information desk and even the chance to buy books and maps – I got Jack Keighley’s excellent Walks in Ribble Country and OS Explorer OL 41 from here – they even take Maestro!

One thing, or should that be a few things that I didn’t expect to find are displayed below, but I won’t totally spoil the surprise for you I’ve left one out!
