You’d think that I would have learned by now.
Oh how you underestimate me!
Not satisfied with doing the mountains of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – oh and the 24.5 miles which go along with the 5,000 feet of ascent, once this summer, I’ve resolved to do it again..and this time for Charity, Macmillan! This time, there will be three of us, Darren, (my brother in law), Colin who has accompanied me over Great Gable and Cross Fell and myself. I am trying also to recruit another two people, beware lol!
Over ten years ago my wonderful fiancé Christine was diagnosed with a rare type of soft tissue Sarcoma in her leg. This resulted in an operation, lots of worry (outwardly by me), yearly visits for scans and x-rays and months worth of daily visits to Clatterbridge for radiation therapy.
Macmillan supported Chris in what could have been a most distressing time as having this rare form of cancer with little support to draw on, Macmillan made good on their mission statement that no-one should face cancer alone. I for one, would like to return the compliment for helping out my soul mate.
It’s my hope that the ups and downs of her journey are symbolically echoed as I and the people with me, go up and down over three of Yorkshire’s finest, with over five thousand feet of ascent and twenty four and a half miles.
