Counting Hill

Where is it? Near the towns of Horwich and Bolton, Lancashire.

How high is it? 1,421 feet.

In which area or park? The West Pennines

There are few walkers outside of the local area who could claim to know much about this hill. Yet, cast an eye on the north and eastern faces of Winter Hill and the hill which first you would see is Counting Hill, what is in a name?

In the West Pennines this is the second highest peak behind its bigger sibling. Along with most of the other West Pennines summits there is no cairn and no trig point and a sodden approach from all directions. The distance between the summits of Counting Hill and Winter Hill is less than a mile but in terms of footfall then they might as welll be
